Handicap Pentathlon

20 km Cycle

The following additional rules to the general rules apply to the 20 km Cycle events:

 a. Cycles must be roadworthy.

 b. Competitors are to comply fully with the Highway Code.

 c. Competitors are to wear a safety helmet.

 d. Competitors are encouraged to wear a hi-vis top to add to their visibility and overall safety.

 e. Drafting (following in a close line to reduce wind resistance) is not permitted during the event.

 f. Competitors are to stop their cycles and place a ‘Foot Down’ at 2 junctions prior to crossing the roads to turn right.  These junctions will be shown on the Event Route and may have marshals present to enforce the Foot Down.

The Competition is open to all BRJ Senior Members and consists of 5 events with the individual’s best 3 scores to count towards the Competition.  There are both male and female Competitions using the same events on the same evenings.  Competitors can take part in as many of the 5 events as they wish, but to have the best chance of a good placing, they need to take part in the minimum of 3 events with all 3 events counting towards their score.  Each discipline has been scheduled to take place on 2 evenings (3 for Indoor Rowing) to try and ensure maximum participation.  However, competitors can only take part in each discipline once.  Each competitor will be permitted to play one ‘Joker’ where his/her score for their nominated ‘Joker’ event will be increased by 10%.
