This is a club social running event, to celebrate the summer solstice and fundraise for the club charity, Guide Dogs for the Blind. The event starts at sunrise 4:30am and ends at sunset 9:00pm on Saturday, 21st June, the longest day. We aim to have runners or walkers signed up for 1 hour time slots on a 5k course throughout the day, with each time slot covered. There will be an award for the senior doing the most time slots and a junior best effort award.
There is a £5 per person entry fee for seniors and £1 for juniors, payable on the day. All proceeds go to the club charity, Guide Dogs for the Blind.
Please register by 14th June so we can ensure all the time slots are covered. Select all time slot you wish to book when booking on ClubPal.
You are invited to register for one hour slots from sunrise at 4:30am until the event closes at sunset 9:00pm.
You can choose to continue over several one hour slots consecutively, or spaced throughout the day, or just do one time slot.
People can run or walk together, there is no limit on the number of people covering each time slot.
We will count the number of one hour slots each person completes, beginning each one hour slot at the start line. At the end of your one hour time slot come back to the start/finish area, you don't need to complete the lap.
The 5k route will be the parkrun summer course.
Huntingdon Parkrun
BRJ members are enthusiastic supporters of Huntingdon parkrun and we will organize this event around the Saturday parkrun to avoid disrupting or interfering with it in anyway.
- We will pause the event at 8:30am so that this slot cannot be booked, but a volunteer will run an outer circuit of the park to maintain the continuous run without crossing the parkrun course.
- BRJ members at the solstice run can participate in parkrun as usual.
- We will restart the event at 10:00am.
There will be a BRJ base on the meadow near the start/ finish area. The organising team will be at the park throughout the day to manage the event, register and log time slots.
We hope this will be a social event, with people bringing picnics, having time together, games on the meadow and celebrating the summer solstice. It would be great to have lots of people there for sunrise and sunset.
BRJ Juniors - The will be a Juniors event from 12:00pm - 4:00pm to include a shorter running circuit with a relay to to complete a "Virtual London Marathon”.
The event aims to promote and raise funds for the club charity. Guide Dogs for the Blind will have a stall for us with information and merchandise.
